About me

I am an artist, maker, designer, embroiderer, facilitator and a lover of colour. I am also a mum of four, my most challenging but rewarding creative collaboration so far! And I’d better not forget to mention my doggie Suki, cat Clancy and a funny little flock of hens.
Passionate about how we learn through creativity, (Postgrad in psychology of adult learning and community education) I’ve held the position of part time lecturer in NCAD textile Art and Artefact (The National Collage of Art and Design) since 2000. I took time out in 2020 due to some health issues. The Silver lining has been time and space to re-ignite my own personal art practise. I’ve recently been diagnosed with a hidden disability which is challenging but my art is helping me process that.

I also have synaesthesia- “when the brain routes sensory information through multiple unrelated senses, causing you to experience more than one sense simultaneously” In my case its “person colour related” whereby I perceive various colours, even layers around people I know. This was more prevalent for me as a young girl when I would “see” auras around people most of the time I thought that everyone did! This is something I don’t often talk about but it has definitely influenced the way I use layers and colours in my art practice. I enjoy the challenge of mixing media, drawing, Collage, paint, fabrics and stitch often feature, as does the repurposing of old materials in new ways to add sensory and sustainable dimensions. Nature always inspires and informs my work as does my Celtic heritage and narratives of belongings and boundaries.
